Senior/Principal Scientist, Antibody Discovery (Single B Cell Screening & Flow Cytometry)

Location: Mountain View, CA

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

AbTherx is a biotechnology company advancing the next generation of antibody therapeutics. By leveraging its proprietary Atlas™ Mice transgenic technologies, the company enables the rapid identification of highly diverse, high‑quality, and developable therapeutic candidates for the industry’s most challenging drug targets. Built on the deep experience of an industry‑leading scientific team, the AbTherx platform empowers drug developers to reliably deliver innovative medicines to unlock difficult targets with speed and efficiency.

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Senior/Principal Scientist to join our Antibody Discovery team. This position requires an experienced individual who will be responsible for setting up and executing antibody discovery campaigns following in vivo immunization using single B-cell capture, interrogation, and sequencing.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in multicolor flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), with expertise in specialized single B-cell platforms (e.g., Beacon, Cyto-Mine) for antigen-specific single B-cell isolation and downstream molecular recovery workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up an efficient single B-cell workflow based on antigen-specific selection of B cells followed by molecular recovery of antibody variable regions
  • Routinely prepare and QC reagents used in single B-cell workflow and downstream antibody characterization: label proteins and cell lines, make antibody conjugates, etc.
  • Screen and characterize antibodies for binding and functional activity using ELISA, flow cytometry, biochemical and cell-based assays
  • Select and maintain stable cell lines for screening with high target expression
  • Continuously explore new technologies, opportunities, and automation to improve and streamline the antibody discovery workflows and processes
  • Supervise junior research staff
  • Provide regular progress updates to internal and external project teams and keep senior management informed of program status

Qualification Requirements

  • MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field with 4+ years of industry experience, or PhD with 3+ years of industry experience and a strong track record
  • Strong hands-on technical expertise in multicolor flow cytometry panel design, instrumentation (e.g., BD FACSAria™, Sony), and high-speed FACS for the precise isolation and deposition of rare, antigen-specific single B cells
  • Strong hands-on laboratory skills in cell culture, molecular biology, high-throughput screening (e.g., ELISA, cell-binding assays), and assay development
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively execute multiple projects and manage competing priorities
  • Proven hands-on experience utilizing single B-cell discovery platforms such as the Bruker/Berkeley Lights Beacon, Sphere Fluidics Cyto-Mine, or other high-throughput single-cell screening and recovery systems to isolate antigen-specific antibody candidates from immunized repertoires strongly preferred
  • Experience with molecular recovery of heavy/light chain variable sequences (e.g., single-cell RT-PCR, plate-based cloning, or 10x-NGS) following single-cell screening strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proven scientific track record
